3D Blu-ray steals the show at Atlanta CEDIA Expo

[tweetmeme source= “blurayreporter” only_single=false]The 3D Blu-ray Disc revolution continues with leading electronics manufacturers exhibiting a range of Blu-ray players and other 3D home entertainment devices at CEDIA Expo in Atlanta.

Organised by the Customer Electronic Design and Installation Association, CEDIA Expo showcases products and services for electronic systems in the home and features exhibitions from some of the world’s leading consumer electronics giants.

Amongst the latest Blu-ray players launched were three new 3D Blu-ray players from Pioneer which will be hitting the market later this year.

No to be outdone, Samsung showed off its HT-C9950W home theatre system with 3D Blu-ray Disc player. Meanwhile Sharp Electronics not only unveiled its new range of Blu-ray players but also a 3D Blu-ray bundle partnership with Universal Studios which will see a Blu-ray 3D copy of Despicable Me bundled with every purchase of a Sharp DVD player.

“3D is the big thing this year,” said Ron Epstein with the Home Theater Forum. “Everywhere you look, everyone is looking for a way into this business.”

The extended cut of Anchorman, or to give it its official title, the ‘Rich Mahogany’ Edition, sees 70s TV news anchor and local hero Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell) struggling to adapt to changing times as the first female reporter (Christina Applegate) joins the news team, with a collection of extended or deleted scenes added.

The film brought together one of the most successful casts in modern comedy, helping names such as Steve Carrell and Paul Rudd cement their A-list status.

Sony confirms date for PS3 Blu-ray 3D support

[tweetmeme source= “blurayreporter” only_single=false]Sony has confirmed that the PlayStation 3 firmware update that will enable playback of Blu-ray 3D Discs will be available to download for free on Tuesday 21st September.

The announcement was made at the Tokyo Game Show, one of the biggest events in the videogame calendar. With sales of 3D TVs expected to increase during the Christmas period, the announcement makes great reading for PS3 owners eager to experience high definition films in 3D. To get the upgrade next week, PS3 owners just need to select ‘System Update’ from the main menu.

Universal confirms Get Him to the Greek BD release and features

Funny man duo Jonah Hill and Russell Brand made Get Him to the Greek a box office smash earlier this year with their outrageous, cross-country capers.  As with any comedy, the outtakes are often as entertaining as the main feature, and the exclusive Blu-ray content set for inclusion is no exception.  These include a karaoke sing along to Aldous Snow’s ridiculous songs, the actual auditions that landed Rose Byrne, Elisabeth Moss, Nick Kroll, Aziz Ansari and T.J. Miller their roles and musical performances from The Today Show and VH-1 Storytellers.

In addition, it also allows viewers to stream one of  three classic comedies, Uncle Buck, Dazed and Confused or Life, via BD-Live or a smartphone.

Back To The Future celebrates 25th anniversary with Blu-ray box set
